Heritage – Ancient Greece produced the great philosophers of Socrates, Plato and Aristotle whose influence continues to this day. In literature the same period produced an abundance of great writers beginning with epic writer Homer, poets Sappho and Pinder, dramatists Sophocles, Euripides, Aeschylus and Aristophanes, and historians Thucydides and Herodotus.
Greece has 17 World Heritage sites, among them the Acropolis in Athens and the monasteries and religious monuments of Mount Athos.
The archæological site at Delphi is just one of five world-famous archæological sites.

Literature – Among many modern writers of note, poets George Seferis (1963) and Odysseas Elytis (1979) were Nobel laureates. Cuisine – Main dishes include moussaka, stifado, Greek salad, spanakopita, souvlaka. Small dishes include meze, tzatziki, grilled octopus, feta cheese and dolmades. Olive oil is added to many dishes. – Wines include ouzo, metaxa, and retsina.
