Area of 131,990 sq km.

Land borders with Albania, Bulgaria and the Republic of Macedonia to the north; Turkey to the east.
Sea borders – Aegean Sea to the east; Ionian Sea to the west; Mediterranean Sea to the south.

Largest cities – Athína (Athens - capital, population 3.76 million), Thessaloníki, Pátras, Lárissa, Irákleio (Heraklion).

Terrain: Eighty per cent of the country is mountains of which the highest is Mount Olympus (2917 metres).  Mountain ranges extend into peninsulars.   Greece has some 2000 islands, mainly in the Aegean Sea.
