Ethnic groups - main ethnic group is Slovene (83%) with small ethnic groups from former Yugoslavia, including Serbians and Croatians; other minorities 2.8% (Hungarian, Italian, Albanian, Roma)  (2002 census)
Slovenes are recognised as national minorities in all the four countries bordering Slovenia (Italy, Austria, Croatia and Hungary).

Language – Slovene is the main language. Italian and Hungarian are officially recognised languages in the border areas.

Religion - 58% of the population is Roman Catholic, 23% whose religion if any is undeclared or unknown, 10% atheist, 9% other religions (including Islam 2%)
