History
In 1707 the Kingdom of Great Britain was created by the political union of the Kingdoms of England (that included Wales) and Scotland. In 1800, the Kingdom of Ireland merged with the Kingdom of Great Britain to form the United Kingdom. In 1922 following a war of independence in the Kingdom of Ireland that led to the creation of an independent Irish state, the northern part of the country joined the UK to form the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
