Classical music – Austria is world famous for its contribution to classical music. It is the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Joseph Haydn, Franz Schubert, Anton Bruckner, Johann Strauss, Sr., Johann Strauss, Jr. and Gustav Mahler. Beethoven spent most of his life in Austria. Also of mention is the Second Viennese School that includes Arnold Schoenberg, Anton Webern and Alban Berg. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756 – 1791)

Famous people – Among many other world famous people are philosphers Ludwig Wittengenstein and Karl Popper; psychologists Sigmund Freud and Alfred Adler, economists Friedrich Hayek and Joseph Schumpeter; still the world's leading management thinker Peter Drucker. In literature one thinks of Franz Kafka (born in Prague), Stefan Zweig, Maria Rainer Rilke, Franz Grillparzer, Adalbert Stifter, and 2004 Nobel laureate Elfriede Jelinek.

One of the country's living icons is sportsman and entrepreneur Niki Lauda (former Formula One three times world champion and founder of Lauda airlines).

Among Austrian born émigrés is film actor, and now governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Cuisine – best known for Wiener Schnitzel, Apfelstrudel and Sachertorte.
