Ethnic groups: Finnish 93.4%, Swedish 5.6%, others 1% (Russian, Estonian, Roma, Sami)

Language – Finnish (91.2%) and Swedish (5.5% of the population). Sami is a recognised regional language.

Religion: Over 80% are members of the Evangelical Lutheran Church. 17% regard themselves as having no religion. (data from 2007)
