Language – Latvian is currently the only officially recognised language.  Actual first language speakers: Latvian 58%, Russian 37.5%, Lithuanian and other (Jewish, Roma, Estonian, German) 4%  (data from a census in 2000)

Religion – Lutheran 20%, Orthodox 15%, other Christian 1%, no specified religion 64% (data from 2006).
