Bordering country – Portugal is bounded by Spain to the north and east and by the Atlantic to the south and west. It is the westernmost country of mainland Europe. Portugal and Spain make up the Iberian peninsula.

Main rivers are the Tagus and the Douro.

Terrain: The north is mountainous with plateaus, the south rolling plains. The highest mountain on the mainland is Serra da Estrela (1,993 metres).
