Famous Slovenes
*  Marshal Josip Broz Tito, president of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (1945-1980) - his mother Marija was Slovenian
*  Danilo Dolci, Italian born in a part of Trieste which is now in Slovenia and whose mother was Slovenian; a social activist against world poverty and the corruption of the Sicilian Mafia. He was twice nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize and in 1958 he was awarded the Lenin Peace Prize, despite being a non-Communist.
*  Zoran Mušič, painter
*  Blaž Arnič, composer. His choral and chamber music has been compared to that of Anton Bruckner. He wrote nine symphonies and also some film music.

Literature – The first books in the Slovene language were written in the 16th century by Protestant preacher Primož Trubar.

Tourist attractions
*  Ljubjlana for its baroque and art nouveau and work of contemporary architect Jože Plečnik.
*  Julian Alps and world heritage site the Škocjan Caves.

Triglav is the highest mountain in Slovenia.

At 2864 metres, Triglav is the highest mountain in Slovenia and part of the Julian Alps.  It is an important national symbol for the Slovenes, and is seen in the national flag.
