Geography

Area of 450,000 square kilometres, the 3rd largest country in the EU by area. 

Bordering countries - situated in Scandinavia, having land borders with Norway to the west and Finland to the north and east, connected to Denmark by the Öresund Bridge in the south. Extensive coastline borders the Baltic Sea, the Gulf of Bothnia, the Kattegat and Skagerrak.

Largest cities – Stockholm (capital, population 1,252,020), Göteborg (or Gothenburg,  510,491), Malmö (258,020), Uppsala (144,839), Västerås (107,005).

Rivers - While there are no significant rivers, the 614 kilometre Göta Kanal passes through rivers and inland lakes to provide a waterway route from Göteborg on the west coast to Söderköping, south of Stockholm, on the Baltic Sea.

Terrain - Sweden forms the eastern part of the Scandinavian Peninsula. To the west is the chain of the Scandinavian mountains (Skanderna or Fjällen), separating Sweden from Norway. About 15% of Sweden lies north of the Arctic Circle.
