Women at work

Should men and women be treated equally at work? What happens if you get pregnant?  There are EU rules about granting Maternity Leave and on the needs of women whom are looking after young children.

In September 2010, the European Commission adopted a five-year strategy for equality between women and men – a Women’s Charter to improve the promotion of gender equality. The issues are wide-ranging.

The rules include protection for pregnant workers and workers who have recently given birth or are breastfeeding.  There are specific provisions governing night work, maternity leave, ante-natal examinations, employment rights and protection against discriminatory dismissal.
